Volunteerism - The path to wholeness
WHAT is a Volunteer?
Volunteerism is the willingness of people to work on behalf of others without the expectation of pay or other tangible gain. Volunteers may have special training as rescuers, guides, assistants, teachers, missionaries, etc., but the vast majority work on an as needed basis, recognizing a need and filling it, whether it be the dramatic search for a lost child or the mundane giving of directions to a lost visitor.
WHY VOLUNTEER?
The benefits of volunteerism are numerous:
- Self satisfaction
- Altruism
- Potential learning or acquisition of new skills
- Specific benefits for the receivers of volunteer efforts
- Relaxation
- Socialization
- Status or reward
- Career opportunities
- Community improvement
(Fischer & Schaffer, 1993)
WHY BE A MCASC VOLUNTEER?
Currently, Metropolitan Community Action Services Corporation (MCASC) is working to change the outlooks and futures of our at risk and under served youth in the Altadena/Pasadena communities by offering Success By Choice conferences and workshops. These conferences are specifically designed for young African American males and are focused on directing, empowering, inspiring and providing the tools required to realize success in their chosen educational, career and/or life goals.
Current MCASC VOLUNTEER NEEDS:
Volunteers are needed to help with registration when conferences or workshops are scheduled. If you would like to volunteer your time, please email info@mcasc for information.
